St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center is one of the largest not-for-profit voluntary hospitals in the country. St. Luke's-Roosevelt was formed in 1979 as a result of a merger between St. Luke's Hospital, which was founded in 1850, Woman's Hospital established in 1855, and Roosevelt Hospital, which dates back to 1871. We are a major teaching affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center (SLRHC) consists of two clinical sites, serving the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This area includes the Columbia University Campus, the American Museum of Natural History, Broadway theatres, Central Park and Lincoln Center. This large neighborhood, with over a million residents from every ethnic and socioeconomic group, provides the most diverse patient population with a broad spectrum of pathology seen at every stage of the illness. In addition, St. Luke's-Roosevelt provides services to patients from all over the tri-state metropolitan area, referred to our highly regarded tertiary care programs. We are a member of the Continuum Health Partners which is the seventh largest employer in New York City.
The St. Luke’s Hospital campus on 114th St. and Amsterdam Avenue is an integral part of the Morningside Heights Community. Sandwiched between the largest gothic cathedral in North America (Cathedral of St. John the Divine) and one of the oldest and best known universities in the world (Columbia University) we are the middle part of Morningside Heights’ “mind, body and soul”. Roosevelt Hospital, located at 59th Street and 10th Avenue, serves the Midtown population, residents of the Upper West Side, and patients from all over New York who come for primary, specialist, and tertiary care services.
