Resident Life at SLR

SLR residents work hard but there's always time for fun

As the capital of the world, NYC is a famous hot spot for the perfect cultural brew - what better place is there to practice medicine than being right at the steps of the world's front gates. The residents at SLR treat patients from different cultures and backgrounds, exposing them to a wide spectrum of diseases and pathologies.

Resident life in New York is filled with excitement not for the faint of heart. A myriad of fun experiences are at your disposal no matter what may spark your interest.

Being a block
away from the southwestern tip of Central Park, a leisure jog through one of the world's most magnificent inner city parks becomes a routine evening getaway. In less than ten minutes, one can transition from an invaluable learning experience in the ICU to a self-reflective and fulfilling run in a beautiful natural scenic park.

Central park is known for its free summer concert series where you can enjoy a warm summer evening on the great lawns allowing your ears to be romanced by the rythmic tunes of popular bands.

Columbus Circle, behind which Roosevelt hospital is located, is a famous landmark, not without familiarity from many Hollywood hit movies. The Time-Warner-AOL Building is home to many trendy shops that keep true to New York's reputation of excellent shopping. Residents also get to enjoy all that NYC is known for having Times Square right at their doorstep.

Residents work very hard on the wards. The usual day on the floors begins at 7:00am with typical signout around 4:30pm each afternoon. At the end of a long and rewarding day, there are many restaurants that showcase all the different delicacies of the world to satisfy your hunger with some of the best food around. Whether it be a taste for some of the most exotic foods or just for a slice of pizza, it's all readily available.

Our annual talent show showcases the many special people that make up the housestaff. Singers, Pianists, actors, playwrites, guitarists, we have them all. Also, the end of each year culminates in a celebrative and congratulative end-of-year party to recognize the hard work put forth by the dedicated residents.

Being located in the Upper West Side, SLR has retained its liberal constituency and bohemian attitude. Along with the region's incredible landmarks and cultural icons, it is a gourmets' delight including Zabar's food emporium, Gray's Papaya, H&H Bagels and the famous Cafe Lalo.

What better way to enjoy your spare time during residency - than hanging out in NYC!

Housing

SLRHC is able to provide quality housing to all residents. There are three buildings which are in close proximity to the hospitals. These rentals represent substantial savings compared to current average market rates. There is a free jitney that transports residents between the two sites.
